Caligo is the Latin word for Dark or Darkness. Caligo Arts was born from a desire to find the light through Artistic Expression, even from the Darkest of Places, utilizing my love for Technology.
We specialize in Web Development, Software Engineering, & Game Design. Here, Inspiration & Imagination light the way for Creativity & Innovation.
Life can be a pretty dark place sometimes until you realize that without the darkness, it's hard to appreciate the light. Learning programming & using it to be creative helped me get through some of my darkest times. So, I've learned to Embrace the Darkness & Finger paint with the Lights Off for Inspiration.
In 2020, Caligo Arts Development Studio was created as just a small portfolio page to practice & show what I’d learned on my Software Engineering path. At the time, I was learning a lot about Website Design & Development and wanted a place to organize all my notes & projects.
When Covid-19 hit, it put a stop to all onsite PC & Network Diagnostics & Support, so I switched to a fully remote business model & focused on Website Design & Development.
I started getting a few solid clients under my belt and was excited to learn more programming languages. I began playing around in Unity & learning C#, which was a lot of fun. I made a couple of game demos and decided to incorporate an Indie Game Development Studio into CaligoArts.com. This was a huge undertaking as an independent developer, considering the project management aspects, world/level building, graphics & animations, story & character development, game loop foundations, and choosing the right game engine.
Financing is the most important aspect to consider first and always the hardest to overcome in the beginning. As we all know, time is money, and if paying clients are keeping you busy, you have less free time for personal projects.
With several ideas for large, expansive role-playing game worlds and stories in mind, I realized I didn't have the time or money to devote to these projects just yet. Fortunately, my Website Design side business started to pick up & become a viable income stream. However, my free time was limited, so I had to focus on building that first & work towards replacing my 9-5.
I was able to quit my day job for a couple of years and run my business full-time, allowing me to learn more about programming & add more projects under my belt. This got my profile noticed, and I was offered a Software Engineer position that I couldn't pass up. This was my career goal, so I took on the challenge of doing both almost full-time.
I will update this site & my projects more as I get time, and I will be updating my Developer's Notebook page with all my old notes while working on remembering the stuff I've forgotten along the way.
Thanks for reading & stay tuned as there are many projects in development for future release! Announcements of new content will be posted on Facebook/CaligoArts. Like & Follow for Updates.
