Privacy Policy
This policy covers two things: the caligoarts.com website, and AIOS, the note-taking and planning app at caligoarts.com/aios and in the Google Play Store. Where they differ, it says so.
Caligo Arts is a sole proprietorship operated by Kevin Thompson. Questions, requests and complaints: CaligoArts@gmail.com.
The short version
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
- Your notes are yours. Nothing in them is read by a person here as a matter of course, and nothing marked private is ever sent to an AI model.
- You can see exactly what is sent to an AI model before you send it, inside the app.
- You can delete your account and everything in it at any time, from inside the app or from that page, without asking us.
What we collect, and why
If you only visit the website
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Advertising storage, ad personalisation and ad user data are switched off in the analytics configuration, so no advertising profile is built from your visit. Analytics cookies are set only in the analytics category.
Some pages of the marketing site carry Google AdSense advertising units. Those pages are the store, the art studio and the Developer's Notebook articles. The AIOS app itself carries no advertising of any kind.
If you subscribe to the newsletter
We store your email address, an optional name, where you signed up from, and how often you have asked to hear from us. Subscription is double opt-in: nothing is sent until you click the link in a confirmation email. Every message carries an unsubscribe link that works without signing in, and unsubscribing is final — nothing overrides it.

What reaches an AI model — the part people actually want to know
AIOS uses an AI model to answer questions you type into its prompt box. When you do that, some of your own material is sent to that model so the answer is about your work rather than about nothing. The rules are enforced in the software, not merely promised here:
- Only what you can see is sent. The app builds the request from your current note and whichever notes you have ticked in the Context panel. You can open the AI view and read the exact text before sending it, including anything that was trimmed to fit.
- Notes in the private category are never sent, cannot be ticked into context, and the prompt box is disabled while one is open.
- Most of AIOS never uses a model at all. Capturing tasks and events, completing them, carrying work forward, the calendar, the Recommended Plan and the Daily Brief are all worked out by ordinary code on our own server.
- Nothing is sent unless you press send. Your notes are not uploaded to a model in the background.
The model providers we send to are Google (Gemini) and, where configured, Anthropic, OpenAI or xAI. They process the request to produce an answer, under their own API terms. We do not use your notes to train any model and we do not permit it to be done on our behalf.
If a question you ask needs current information, AIOS may ask the model to search the web. In that case your question — not your notes — reaches a search service, and the app lists the pages the answer used.
Who else sees anything
- Our hosting provider, which runs the server your data sits on.
- The AI model provider, for the requests described above.
- Our payment provider, if you subscribe.
- Google, for website analytics and, on the marketing pages only, advertising.
- Gmail, which carries our outgoing email.
Nobody else. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising.
We may disclose information if we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety. If that happens we will tell you unless we are forbidden to.
If you publish an article
AIOS lets you submit a written piece for publication on the Developer's Notebook. If we publish it, that page is public: it has its own address, it appears in our sitemap, and search engines and other sites may link to it or keep copies.
Because of that, deleting your account does not remove an article that has already been published. A submission still waiting for review is withdrawn and deleted along with everything else. To have a published article taken down, email CaligoArts@gmail.com and we will remove it from the site; we cannot remove copies other people have already made.
Deleting your account
You can delete your AIOS account yourself, at any time, without contacting us:
- In the app: Your Plan → Close Account. On a phone it is also on the More page.
- On the web: caligoarts.com/aios/delete-account.html, which works in any browser and does not need the app installed.
Deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no grace period and nothing is archived. It removes your notes and images, your tasks, events and routines, your settings, your usage records, your newsletter subscription, any submission still waiting for review, and the account itself. If you have a subscription it is cancelled first; if it cannot be cancelled, nothing is deleted and we tell you why, because we will not close an account while a card can still be charged.
The one exception is a published article, as described above.
Ordinary server logs and off-site backups may retain some information for up to 30 days before they are overwritten in the normal course of operation.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Deletion you can do yourself with the links above; for anything else, email CaligoArts@gmail.com and we will answer within 30 days.
If you are in California, we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we will never charge you differently for exercising a privacy right. If you are in the EEA or the UK, we process your data to provide a service you asked for and on the basis of your consent for analytics and marketing email, and you may withdraw that consent at any time; you also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.
Children
AIOS is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Security
Traffic is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes and never in readable form. Each account's files are kept apart from every other account's, and every request is checked against the account that made it. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will tell you.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, for a significant change, email account holders.
